Growing Up, Growing Older
Look in the mirror and study the body
that is reflected back, a body that
has aged with wrinkles, scars
a body that betrays the work of time.
Unclothed there are no secrets left
to disguise, no hope of pretending
that one is still young, full of promise
yet there is something there in the mirror.
It starts with the eyes as one looks
into the depths, looking beneath
the shifting colours that have faded
searching the depths framed in black.
One senses a place that is timeless
where age is meaningless and bodies
have given way to the essence of self.
I blink and see my own fse
ace looking back.
